Mason pretty much carries a knife with him wherever he goes. I guess this is somewhat of a Boy Scout thing. Today, as is normal for him, Mason took his knife with him to math class. Now, before you panic, we are really okay with him taking it to math. (There is no stated rule that we have heard of.) His class is in a not so great part of town, and we want him to have it tucked away secretly. As I picked him up today, we noticed a group of police cars at an apartment complex across the street from his class. (See, he needs protection!) Seeing the police reminded him of his knife and a "funny story" that happened with it today. He got the knife out and was holding it as he started his story.
He keeps it clipped to the inside pocket on his jeans. Well, he laughed as he told how somehow it got clipped to his shirt and fell into the toilet. Guess who was not laughing after the word "toilet"? I immediately interrupted him and told him to drop it on the floor of the car. I am fully assuming that he had already cleaned it with soap, but couldn't stand the thought of him holding it anyway. He felt like I was "freaking out" and proceeded to say that he reached in "quickly" and got it out. What is that??? Does he think that the 5 second rule applies when your hand is in a public toilet??? Upon further investigation, no, he did not wash it off. He was quite pleased that he had taken care of it by "drying it off with toilet paper." (He did not want to take the risk of someone seeing him if he washed it.) He did, however, use 3 squirts of soap to wash his hands.
The story continued as he told me that a boy in his math class was in the stall next to him at the time. He heard the splash and said to Mason, "What was that?" Mason simply replied by making a sound kind of like a mixture between "Ha Ha" and clearing your throat. Wonder what the kid thinks was so important for Mason to go in after??
By this time I had 3 wipes with hand sanitizer gel on them. He washed his hands, and then started to wash his knife. In the process of doing that, he very superficially nicked his finger. Nice, that was with a bacteria laden blade. Can you say nasty infection. Don't worry, he told me that he learned years ago from a tv show that a toilet is much cleaner than a fish bowl. Help me here. Is that supposed to make me feel better?
Never fear, the clothes have already been washed. Mason actually needed some help with that one. The toilet knife, dried with toilet paper, went back into the pocket. Duh!

now, I think mason took care of the potty knife as best he could under the circumstances! but, we moms are supposed to freak out, so you know, that just part of what we are made of! did you show the boy any compassion when severed his finger???
jo
haha! That is a funny story.
I so thought this story was going to go differently...that there was some "no knife" policy and the police cars were there because someone said a student had a knife! So in comparison, the toilet story is not so bad! :) Julie
oh, the laughs we get from our family!!! Sweet Mason...first, how is the cut on your finger?
Second....remember how I almost ruined my cell phone at your house, trying to "clean it" with a little too much soap and water?
