We all picked out a plant from the "Mid-South Feed and Seed" store early in the summer. Alas, Thomas grew the only successful plant (others were tomato, cucumber and red pepper). He was so excited to till the soil and plant his little guy!

After many weeks, his cantaloupe vines took over one half of the area next to our deck- this was taken near his birthday (after the wasp sting).

There must be 10-15 cantaloupe beginning to grow at this point. We lost a couple of ripe ones because we didn't realize we needed to turn them every so often, so some of them rotted on the bottom.

Finally, just about a week ago, we picked one that looked just right!

Thomas really enjoyed watching his cantaloupe plant grow, and grow, and grow!! He served his first harvested fruit with us at a special dinner he and his siblings served- the highlight was his "Specialty" dessert!
